Software solutions: choose well, implement properly

Choosing a platform is a decision you live with for years, and it is usually made badly — from a demonstration rather than from your requirements. We assess, recommend, implement and support, and we are independent of the vendors, so we can tell you when a cheaper option is the right one.

Our flagship cloud ERP platform

ZhiftERP

One platform for accounting, stock, purchasing, projects and people.

ZhiftERP is the cloud ERP we recommend most often to Nigerian businesses that have outgrown standalone accounting software. Accounting, inventory, purchasing, manufacturing, HR, CRM, projects and point of sale run on one database, so a sales order, a stock movement and a ledger entry are recorded once and appear everywhere at once.

  • One login, every department. Accounting, stock, purchasing, projects, HR and CRM share the same live data. No integrations to maintain and no re-keying between systems.
  • No per-user licence fees. Costs are driven by hosting and service rather than headcount, which matters when a growing business is adding sales, warehouse and operations staff.
  • Multi-company and multi-currency. Run several registered entities, branches or currencies on one instance, with consolidation and inter-company control.
  • Configurable without lock-in. Workflows, approval rules, custom fields and reports are configured to how the business actually operates. The platform is open source (GPLv3), so the data and the customisations are portable.
  • Open API for integrations. A documented REST API and webhooks support connections to payment gateways, banking feeds, e-commerce, payroll and third-party logistics systems.
  • Role-based access control. Permissions down to the field level, with an audit trail of who changed what and when — a practical foundation for internal control.

CloudERP implements, configures and supports ZhiftERP for Nigerian businesses as part of our ERP practice. Formal reseller or partner terms are being documented; until they are signed we describe the relationship as implementation and support, not certification.

Comparison

How the platforms differ

The table below compares platforms by the questions that actually decide the choice. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a substitute for a requirements assessment — editions, market availability and features change, and we confirm specifics against your situation.

Platform Type Best suited to Stock & operations Multi-entity Deployment Where it strains
ZhiftERP Full cloud ERP Businesses needing accounting, stock, purchasing, production and projects on one system Strong — multi-warehouse, batch, serial, manufacturing Yes Managed cloud Simple businesses that do not need the breadth
QuickBooks SME cloud accounting SMEs needing solid bookkeeping, invoicing and reporting Basic item tracking Limited Cloud (desktop editions exist) Manufacturing, multi-warehouse, complex projects
Sage SME and mid-market accounting Established businesses, particularly existing Sage users Trading-oriented stock and invoicing Higher editions On-premise and cloud, varies by product Modern all-in-one operational requirements
Xero Cloud accounting Service businesses and SMEs wanting a modern cloud stack Basic tracked inventory Limited Cloud only Manufacturing, multi-warehouse, consolidation
Zoho Books Cloud accounting in a suite Businesses also adopting CRM, projects or approvals Basic stock and composite items Limited Cloud only Manufacturing, multi-warehouse, single-system ERP needs
Tally Legacy desktop accounting Existing Tally users; migration source systems Trading stock tracking Limited Desktop, on-premise Multi-site access, integration, modern controls

Vendor product names are used descriptively to identify the platforms we work with. CloudERP is independent of these vendors unless a specific page states a formal relationship.

Guided selection

Find the right accounting or ERP solution

Answer six questions about your business and get a preliminary shortlist, then send it to a consultant for a proper assessment. The shortlist is a starting point, not a recommendation — the right answer depends on your data, your processes and your reporting needs.

How we approach selection

What a proper assessment covers

Requirements, written down

Twenty to forty requirements, each marked essential, desirable or irrelevant. Vague requirements produce vague software choices.

Testing the awkward cases

Part payments, credit notes, multi-currency, period locks, dimension reporting and restricted users. Vendors demonstrate the happy path; your business lives on the exceptions.

Total cost, not subscription cost

Every user, every add-on, implementation, training, support, internal administration time, and the manual workarounds the platform does not cover.

Statutory fit

Whether the platform can record and evidence VAT, withholding tax and payroll deductions well enough to support a return.

Exit position

How you export your data if you leave, in what format, and how much of your configuration would survive the move.

Internal ownership

A named person who owns the system after go-live. Without one, configuration decays and workarounds multiply.

Common questions

Before you choose

Do you sell software licences?

Generally no. Licences are normally purchased directly from the provider so your commercial relationship, pricing and support entitlement sit with the business that owns the data. We do not mark up licences. Where a reseller arrangement exists, we disclose it in writing before any purchase.

Are you a certified partner of any of these vendors?

Not unless a specific platform page says so in writing. We provide independent implementation, configuration, migration, training and support. Being independent is what allows us to recommend against a platform when it does not fit.

What is the difference between accounting software and an ERP?

Accounting software records financial transactions. An ERP also runs the operations that cause those transactions — stock, purchasing, production, projects, HR — in the same database. If your reporting depends on operational data, accounting software will leave you assembling it by hand every month.

Can you support a system someone else implemented?

Often, yes. We will review the configuration and the processes around it first, because many problems described as software problems are configuration or process problems. Where the installation needs rebuilding, we will say so.

How long does implementation take?

A focused single-entity accounting implementation is measured in weeks. A multi-module, multi-site ERP project is measured in months. We give you a phased plan with the dependencies named rather than a single date we cannot guarantee.

What if we choose the wrong platform?

It happens, and it is expensive. That is exactly why the assessment exists. If a business comes to us already committed to a poor choice, we will say so before the money is spent — which is a difficult conversation and a cheap one.

Get an independent view before you commit

A short assessment costs a fraction of eighteen months on the wrong platform. We will recommend the platform that fits, including a cheaper one than the platform you asked about.
